The Pioneers defeat Cal Lutheran University 7-6 in four overtimes to win Collegiate III National Championship in tournament hosted by Connecticut College. It is CSUEB's first sports national championship since the 1988 women's soccer team.
With a goal of upgrading the level and visibility of the competition for its intercollegiate athletic program, Cal State East Bay intends to move to the NCAA Division II ranks and compete in the California Collegiate Athletic Association.
